SOUND SPACES PROJECT

Out Of Sight Is Not Out Of Mind

The idea that space can be described by an audio or sound experience is a perhaps a challenge place to start. We have become so reliant on sight, letting it guide us, often without questioning it, to the point that we push back other senses into the role of support acts or confirmation of what we see. But a space is a sound. It's an echo, it's an environment, it's a hard or soft surface bouncing or absorbing the world around. Sound lets us understand a space, gain its measure and escape the limiting edges of sight.

A group of Architecture students from Arts University Bournemouth were challenged to explore the idea of space through field walks, discussions and imagination. They challenged sight as the primal locating device of a space and have tried to create experiences and ideas of sound being space. A Sound Space.

These are the outcomes.

Please find the location on the map where you should listen to each of the sounds.
