spud Artist Collective Auction

The spud ARTIST COLLECTIVE is having a fundraising auction to support their annual exhibition at spudGALLERY. All artworks are produced by artists from the collective and represent the rich output from spud artists and the creative community.

The spud ARTIST COLLECTIVE was set up as a group of artists and crafts people working at SPUD who look to test and question the edge of their creative practice collaboratively, and use these experiences as a springboard to engage with the communities from New Forest area in meaningful dialogue. They include established international artists and recent graduates from the spudLAUNCHPAD.

You are invited to make an online bid for any of the artworks listed below. Each artwork has a suggested guide price. There is no minimum reserve prices and all work will be sold at the Live Auction. An online bid provides no guarantee of securing the artwork, therefore if you really want to secure an artwork please attend the Live Auction at spudWORKS at 6pm on Saturday 18th March 2023.

1. Hybrids – Handy Hands

Cast plaster and glass bead.

Artist: Tom Hall

Item Description:
From a new body of work exploring the idea of hybridisation in the human body and what potential our human form might achieve.

Artist Bio:
Graduate of the RCA, his main practice is making large installations out of cardboard and unconventional disco balls.
He has shown internationally in US and at Venice biennale has a major new installation being made here for national motor museum

2. Towards Wilverley

Teaches painting classes at Art Angels, spudWORKS

My inspiration is drawn from my surroundings, especially the power and energy of the Ocean. I like to explore, using a variety of different media, to try to capture movement and mood.
I am constantly trying to find different ways of working with a variety of textures to give light, depth and feeling.

5. Walk 1 Avon Water

A guided walk.

Artist: Robbie Steen

Artist Bio:
Local poet, gardener and forest walking guide.
He has travelled the world with a touring theatre company.

Description:
A guided spring summer walk along the banks of Avon Water with a poem written from the
journey we take.
A looping walk starting and ending at Spudworks for 1-4 people. Will be made accessible for
all.

6. Walk 2 Ancient Forest

A guided walk.

A guided walk anytime of the year. Come meet the ancients of Hincheslea Woods. With a
poem written from our conversations with the trees.

Made from Italian yarns and filled with all natural hypoallergenic buckwheat hulls.

Cloudi is a Central Saint Martins graduate specialising in knitted textiles, she has a brand named Studio Knoga that focuses on producing restorative yoga accessories such as bolsters, meditation cushions and eye pillows.

12. Retain the Blue II

Acrylic and Oil on board.
40cm x 40cm

This work was inspired by the process of producing a collagraph plate, layering textures and images with acrylic paint, then applying printmaking ink with rags in thin multiple layers.

Artist: Vanessa Collingridge

Artist Bio:
Vanessa is a fine artist living and working in the New Forest. She has a BA(Hons) and MA in Fine Art from Arts University Bournemouth, where she is also a Lecturer.
Vanessa’s work shifts from abstract painting to the controlled process of printmaking, created from a personal catalogue of images, observations of places and people often worked from memory.

If you are a successful online bidder we will be in touch to arrange collection or postage after 18th March (postage and packing will be charged for at the current rates).
